BeeLatch setup

Connect BeeLatch to your home Wi-Fi

Do this once. BeeLatch remembers your network, and BeeDash finds it automatically from then on.

Preview procedure. BeeLatch Setup Mode is part of the BeeLatch firmware that ships from October 18. The wording below may change slightly before then. Questions? Text 415.341.2281.

You need

  • BeeLatch installed and powered (bike on) — or powered over USB on a bench
  • Your phone with BeeDash installed
  • Your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi name and password

Good to know

  • BeeLatch connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only (not 5 GHz-only networks)
  • A phone hotspot works too — handy on the road
  • Your Wi-Fi password is stored only on BeeLatch
Phone BeeLatch Home Wi-Fi 1 · join BeeLatch 2 · BeeLatch joins Then put your phone back on your home Wi-Fi — BeeDash finds BeeLatch there.
  1. Power it on

Switch the bike on so BeeLatch has power. The status LED lights up.

  2. Put BeeLatch in Setup Mode

Press the small RESET button on BeeLatch once. It restarts into Setup Mode and creates its own Wi-Fi network (the name starts with “BeeLatch”). Setup Mode times out after a few minutes, so keep going.

  3. Join the BeeLatch network with your phone

Open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings and join the BeeLatch network. Your phone may say there is no internet — that’s normal. Stay connected.

  4. Open the setup page

In BeeDash go to Settings → Gateway & Logger → Setup & connection and tap Open setup page. (Or open your browser and go to 192.168.4.1.)

  5. Search for your Wi-Fi and enter the password

Tap Search for Wi-Fi, choose your home network, type the password, and tap Save. BeeLatch restarts and joins your network.

  6. Put your phone back on your home Wi-Fi

Rejoin your normal Wi-Fi. In BeeDash tap Search my network — BeeLatch appears and BeeDash connects. You’re done.

Prefer to type it in?

Manual mode

If you know BeeLatch’s address (your router’s device list shows it), choose Settings → Gateway & Logger → Setup & connection → Manual mode, type the address, and tap Save & test connection.

When you get home

Once BeeLatch is on your home Wi-Fi it can offload the ride logs it recorded to its SD card, and BeeDash can download them. Automatic upload of your rides to your BeeDash cloud history is coming soon — when it launches, rides will sync on their own the moment BeeLatch is on your home Wi-Fi after a ride.

Troubleshooting

  • BeeDash can’t find BeeLatch: make sure your phone and BeeLatch are on the same Wi-Fi and that it is a 2.4 GHz network.
  • Guest networks / “AP isolation”: some routers stop devices talking to each other. Use your main network or a phone hotspot.
  • Wrong password or moved house: press RESET again to re-enter Setup Mode and save the new network.

FAQ

Questions

Why only 2.4 GHz?

BeeLatch uses a standard ESP32 radio that works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Most home routers broadcast 2.4 GHz alongside 5 GHz under the same name.

Is my Wi-Fi password safe?

The password is saved only on BeeLatch, in its own memory, and is never sent to our website or the app’s servers.

Do I need Wi-Fi to use BeeDash?

Today BeeDash reads BeeLatch over Wi-Fi. A phone hotspot is the easy option on the road. Bluetooth is in development.
